Beryllium Copper provides excellent EMI protection when used as a gasket, due to its high electrical conductivity. This combined with the properties of high tensile strength, resistance to fatigue and its spring like qualities, make this an ideal material for use in applications such as around enclosure doors, where constant opening and closing is likely to occur. The major advantage that Beryllium Copper gaskets have over most other conductive gaskets, is that they will tolerate a wiping or shearing action, whereas other materials must have a direct compressive force applied to them. The strips have a bright Copper finish as standard, but can also be plated with Tin, Nickel, etc., to ensure galvanic compatibility with your enclosure. Attenuation ManagementFor maximum attenuation of a gasketed gap, the contact resistance of the mounting joint and closing joint must be very low and remain so throughout the life of the product. While a gasket may have the potential for very high attenuation under ideal conditions, over time oxidation, corrosion and dirt at the mounting and closing joints may reduce effectiveness. Factors influencing contact resistance over the life of the product are pressure (closing force), plating, and wiping action.
